500 word evaluation
When it came to creating my
final project, I really wanted produce something that I myself would enjoy
using and something that would be marketed at someone like me.
My final project is a click
through prototype and web based home page for an app called GRLZ. The app is a
fun quirky lifestyle app delivering new daily content providing gossip, horoscopes,
fashion and beauty. In order to create this app and create content I took a lot
of inspiration from brands such as Skinnydip, a fashion accessories brand which
markets at the same target audience as mine. Depop an online market place, the
layouts of their apps and home page based website and also from social media
platforms as seeing other people produce fun content inspires me to create my
own.
My target audience for the
app GRLZ is teenage girls to young adults ranging around the ages of fifteen to
twenty-five. I believe that social media really has been integrated into our
everyday lives, being one of the first things we look at in the morning to the
last thing at night. GRLZ will produce the content of many apps in one
providing everything all in one place making it easy for the users. This is
great for the target audience because the brand will become part of their everyday
lifestyles.
With my target audience being
under the ‘generation z’ label there is a huge market to offer this app too.
Common Sense Media conducted a survey which displayed that 92% of the people of
generation z spend between six and nine hours a day absorbing media. This sort
of evidence really justifies the space in the market for this everyday
lifestyle app.
I decided on choosing the
name for the app as GRLZ, this is because I really wanted the name to have a
feminine approach, but I also needed it to be a little punk and rebellious due
to the demographic and the links to empowerment for young females through this
participatory and fun platform. GRLZ is for girls, obviously.
The app portrays four
different feature all which illustrate different content when clicking through
the prototype. I have purposely used stereotypical female imagery and colour schemes
with a fun post-internet twist to reimagine gossip, horoscopes, fashion and
beauty for a new generation of young women. I want GRLZ to be the platform that
girls are using in their everyday lives, whether that being them use it to find
out what happened at the latest celebrity event or even just to get tips of the
newest fashion and beauty trends.
In conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed
this experience creating an app as it was quite out of my comfort zone and
really enabled me to challenge myself. The assignment allowed me to learn the
software Axure and also improve my skills in Photoshop whilst creating content.
Overall, I am happy with the final outcome of my project and grateful for the
oppourtunity I had to create this app
