Artist Inspiration

Image
For this task, I have looked into three different artists who all share similarities in their work, I decided to look at Petra Cortright, Leah Schrager and Emily Gervais. Petra Cortright: ‘Buggin out’ Petra Cortright is an artist from LA, who works in video, painting and digital media. Cortright is known for her work that she began posting on YouTube around ten years ago in which she displays herself in a playful manner, experimenting with filters and effects that are built into her webcam camera. At the time when Cortright began posting these ‘out there’ videos of herself performing in a strange way, filters and effects were not as enhanced or normalised as they are today with the likes of snapchat and Instagram.  Cortright uses herself as a subject of the art in majority of her videos, for example in an exhibition she had 50 flat screen monitors all screening her videos in which she is seen in a yellow dress as flames erupt from her body. SkinnyDip Company Inspiration

Image
I have shopped with a fashion accessories company called Skinnydip since I was about 17 and have followed them on all social medias and visited their stores. The brand has developed and I personally think got better over the years in terms of new designs but have always stayed consistent to their core idea.  I LOVE the creativity illustrated from their actual product designs to their stores, they are extremely aesthetically pleasing and really tie the brand together making the consumer want to come back for more. The target audience for Skinnydip is 16 to 24-year-olds, being very similar to my app I took to their website, social media accounts and also to their products that I own such as water bottles, notebooks, phone cases and bags just to gain an insight into what sort of colours and design really do pull that demographic towards your work.

target audience

My target audience for this product is teenage girls to young adults ageing around 15 to 24. social media has been integrated into our everyday lives, being the first thing that we look at in the morning to the last thing at night. My app will produce the content of many apps in one providing everything all in one place. This is great for the target audience because the brand will become part of their everyday lifestyles.  My products name is GRRLZZZ  the name needed to be a little punk and rebellious due to the demographic and the links to empowerment for young females through this participatory and fun platform. GRRLZZZ is for girls, obviously. Using stereotypical female imagery with a fun post-internet twist to reimagine gossip /fashion/lifestyle magazines for a new generation of young women.

Sketches

Image
I drew rough sketches of how i want my app to look. The app will open with the login page, presented with the world GRLZZZ against a flame and then a button to login. The app will contain a menu Page that will display different options of pages that contain different content such as horoscopes, gossip, beauty, fashion, funny memes and so on. When the colour scheme is incorporated into the sketches it will really  Illustrate the girly/edgy aesthetic I am trying to portray throughout the app.
